Corunna… Owosso… People travel near and far to watch this rich tradition of basketball from the way too hyped up tip-off to the sometimes nail biting finishes. Leaving this thrilling classic, one for the history books.
I love the idea of painting pictures in the reader’s heads. If you need the picture painted, I am always your guy. You can quite often tell how good a game is going to be by the atmosphere around it. As I stepped foot into “The Warehouse”, flashbacks popped into my head as I visualized Jalen Weekley strapping threes left and right from Steph Curry range like it was his job. Next I heard the cowbells from Owosso students as they chanted their famous “not so good” chant “O-WA-SO”. That chant always grinds my gears for some odd reason. Anywho, I then felt the energy of the Black and Gold clashing with the Blue and Yellow. Not just on the hardwood, but on the football field as well (47-6 LOL).
Both student sections brought their “A” games tonight! Both sides were very fired up for a Monday night! However, Let’s be honest, the Cavalier parents and lifelong fans made the atmosphere worthwhile. I am almost positive that the entire town showed up! For it being a home basketball game for the Trojans, you would think they would have more supporters? I guess not. One thing is for sure, they missed one HECK of a game!
Like my other blogs, I tend to shoot ya straight. Corunna wins 54-50. As a fan, it was one of those games that you cannot wait till the end because you know something crazy is bound to happen. Boy was I right! With 10 seconds left, Drake Nover throws up a prayer and cashes it off the high glass. That then made the game 51-50 Corunna with about 8 seconds left. I tell you what, those 8 seconds couldn’t have gone by slower. “The 4th quarter seemed longer than the first three quarters combined.” says Max (CHS Super-Fan) Nations. After lots of fouling here and fouling there, Owen Walter deposited
a free throw to put the game out of reach for the Trojans as the Cavs now claim “Midtown” 54-50.
Now, a whole different story of its own…. Garrett Walworth’s shoe show. The big man for Owosso really showed how much he cared about this rivalry as he continued to play without a shoe. As the big guy slipped, slopped, and slided around like a pot belly hog in mud, you could tell he was really “hungry” for a win. You would think that the referees would stop play so he could slip it back on, but, I guess they wanted to see him run with a sock on as much as lots of Owosso and Corunna fans. What a comical sight it was! Events like this one are what gives this rivalry the color it has!
Yet another classic addition to this historic rivalry of crosstown foes.
Let’s tip our hats to both teams for giving us fans an enjoyable Monday night!
Your Cavaliers are back in action with vengeance Friday, February 3rd @ HOME @ 7PM as they face the Martians of Goodrich.
